Healthy Lifestyle With Migrant Mothers-Family Project (Biola)

This is a sequel to a previous programme on healthy lifestyle with migrant mothers in Amsterdam. Based on a study of migrants of West-African and Afro-Surinamese origin. This project is in collaboration with health authorities from the Amsterdam Medical Centre (AMC), the GGD, Amsterdam Aanpak Gezond Gewicht and other professionals from Amsterdam Southeast are collaborating on The Family Project.The objective is to help families with young children to have a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight, in order to prevent overweight (or obesity), diabetes, high-blood pressure and other cardio-vascular diseases in later life. Overweight (or obesity), diabetes, high-blood pressure and other cardio-vascular diseases are found to be more common in many of the migrant communities here in Amsterdam as compared to the non-migrant communities. Therefore, we want to raise the awareness about healthy lifestyles to greater number of people by various means including use of the radio. Our guest today is Ms. Biola one of the migrant mothers involved in the Family Project, supported by Ms. Florence Fernald. Ms. Biola iss here as a role model to share her experiences as well as lessons learned from participating so far in this project.
